Empathos Fellowship

The Empathos Fellowship is a unique programme designed to support and inspire aspiring healthcare students in sixth forms across the UK. Over the course of an academic year, participants will engage in structured sessions that provide invaluable insights into the world of healthcare, whether you are an aspiring medical, dental, nursing or pharmacy student. Through interactive workshops, students will develop essential and transferable skills in teamwork, critical thinking, reflection, and leadership. The upcoming cohort will start in late January and the application deadline is 31st December 2024, applications are assessed on a rolling basis, thus the applications may close sooner than the deadline

Empathos Fellowship 〰️

  • The Empathos fellowship, runs over an academic year, provides aspiring healthcare student’s with structured sessions that will be held at your school. The aim is to provide students with insight into a healthcare career and skill development opportunities. All participants will receive a certificate of participation should you graduate from our programme.

  • As the school lead, you will receive additional training and will be responsible for liaising between Empathos and the participants in your school.

  • The fellowship consists of 8 sessions, but 6 are compulsory. Each session entails developing a key skill relating to healthcare. The sessions can be held at any time within the academic year.

    For example, critical appraisals in research, reflection, teamwork & fundraising projects. These sessions are structured as you will submit your groups work on our portal and will receive feedback. The aim of the sessions are for you to develop key interpersonal skills that are transferable such as communication, teamwork, problem solving, leadership as well as getting insight into a healthcare degree and career.

  • Should you complete 5 out of the 8 sessions, you will receive a certificate of participation that can be used within your portfolios and university applications. Those who complete 7 out of 8 sessions, will receive a commendation.

    You can speak about your learning points within your personal statements (UCAS University application) and interviews. As well as, developing transferable skills and gaining insight into a healthcare career.

  • You are required to complete the inital sign-up form above. It is advisable, that you have permission from your school before applying, though you can still apply and obtain this later on. A minimum of two students need to sign up from your school, in order to be accepted.

    You will be contacted via email for next steps, so it is important to have access to an email that you check.

  • The next cohort starts in late January 2025. The application’s have opened now and application deadline is 31st December.

  • This fellowship is currently to students in Year 12 and 13. Gap year student’s can apply, but will be grouped with students in local area.

  • No, the Empathos Fellowship is offered free of charge to all selected students. We aim to make this opportunity accessible to everyone

  • We recognise that student’s are currently focusing on A-Levels and other commitments they may have.

    This fellowship has been organised to be flexible, as you will be in charge on when the session’s will take place. You are required to take part in 5 out of 8 sessions to receive a participation award.

  • If you are accepted onto the fellowship programme, an Empathos team member will be in touch via the email provided, with further information in January 2025.

  • We recognise that exams is the priority for all students and student’s may have other commitments. Our programme, is predominantly student-led, as in you can hold the sessions at any time/date, as long as it’s within the fellowship period.

    For example, if you have an exam in February, you can start holding your sessions from March onwards. You can only have a maximum of one session per week.

    All students must participate in at least 5 sessions to receive a certificate and those who participate in 7 or more, will receive a commendation.
